Quick Fix
Marathon does not run on Linux or Steam Deck. Use a Windows PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. There is no workaround.
Step-by-Step Fixes
- Marathon requires Windows (PC), PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S
- BattlEye anti-cheat blocks Proton — no Linux support
- Bungie has not announced a Linux or Steam Deck version
- For BattlEye launch crash on Windows PC, see the BattlEye error page
What Causes Linux / Steam Deck?
Marathon uses BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat that is designed for Windows. BattlEye does not support Proton or Wine. Without BattlEye support on Linux, Bungie cannot enable Linux/Steam Deck play without compromising anti-cheat.
